4 Ideas for Flocked Garland + DIY Snow, Lights…

Vickerman is known for making very realistic-looking artificial pine trees and holiday decor. Their natural design pine garlands are no different, and even their snowy flocked garland looks like you brought it in from the outdoors.

9-Foot Vickerman Flocked White Garland with Warm White Lights

1. Buy a Vickerman Flocked Garland:

Dress it up with pinecones, ornaments or berries, or simply leave it plain for a more rustic look. Alternatively, you can buy this garland pre-lit with subtle multi-color or warm white bulbs.

Note: Vickerman’s garlands feature “dura-lit technology” to maximize performance and minimize maintenance. In other words, when one light loses connection, the rest of the bulbs still light up.

2. Snowy Garland with Long Pine Needles

Alternatively, if you prefer longer needles, more snow and pinecones, Vickerman sells an Atka Pine garland.

You can get it with or without lights, which are energy-efficient LED bulbs.

Also, the wire center branch bends. Therefore, you can mold it into place around a doorway threshold or on top of a fireplace mantel.

Note: Some customers recommend giving the garland a light shake outside when you first take it out of the box. This gets rid of the loose snow flakes so they don’t get all over your mantel, table, etc..

3. Custom-Looking Flocked Pine Cone Garland…

CraftMore makes a heavily-frosted lighted garland with multiple size pinecones. Even the pine needles have various lengths.

It has a unique custom design, however, it costs more per foot.

Having said that, if you prefer a shorter 6-foot garland for a small mantel or table, this holiday decor really looks impressive. And, keep in mind that you get cones, lights and greneery all in one package.

4. Flocked Spruce Garland with Lights (+ More Branch Tips)

Do you prefer shorter, fuller spruce needles? National Tree makes a “Feel Real” snowy spruce garland with white-flocked tips.

The company actually molds the garland from real tree branches. Hence, you get that deceptively-authentic “real” look.

Compared to the pine garlands above, this 9-foot snow-flocked swag has 240 branch tips (vs 160). However, it has a narrower 12-inch diameter for a fuller, thicker looking greenery.

Therefore, if you want a full, cascading garland for a staircase railing or fireplace mantel, spruce provides a good option. You don’t have to fill empty branch space with other decorations.

Speaking of lots of pine needles, National Tree makes a “frosted” arctic spruce garland with a whopping 350 branch tips. It also comes decorated with lights and pinecones, but very little faux snow.

DIY Snow Flocking for Garlands:

Easy DIY Snow Flock for Garlands, Wreaths, Christmas TreesDIY Tip: You can make your own flocked garland with easy-to-use artificial “snow spray”. If you already have a Christmas tree, garland or wreath, you can flock it yourself for about $10.

However, this idea works only if you want a “light dusting” of snow rather than heavily-flocked branches. For more lumpy snow, I suggest checking out self-adhesive snow flock. It requires a little more time to apply, but looks more realistic for heavier snow.

Alternatively, you can use white spray paint and popcorn ceiling texture spray. The video tutorial below demonstrates how to do this in about 5 minutes.

What About Battery-Operated Pre-Lit Flocked Garlands?

Many pre-lit artificial garlands have plug-in lights rather than battery operation. I’m guessing that’s because they are designed for indoor use where you have electrical outlets available.

I recommend purchasing lights separately that run on an attached battery unit. Therefore, you can use your flocked garland wherever you want to without having to plug it in.

(Also, get lights with dark wires, so you can easily hide wiring amongst the branches!)
